Movement

We are joined again by Meredith of Senior Fitness With Meredith. Today Meredith offers us a 20 minute seated strength training workout for seniors and all training beginners. We will feature beginner videos from Meredith to start and later offer a beginner video and a more advanced one each week so we can make progress with our fitness goals.

Wellness

Processed Foods. The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health provides us with all the information we need to determine levels of processed foods, which of them are most harmful, a listing of popular foods and the different ways they can be processed and how to best read food labels. This is a lengthy but valuable article that, if followed, can help us avoid metabolic syndrome and chronic disease.

Wellness/Caregivers

We will continue to highlight potential cognitive issues with Dr. Leslie Kernisan of Better Health While Aging as she explains Cerebral Small Vessel Disease (CVD). Studies show it can effect up to 95% of senior citizens when detected with an MRI of the brain. Dr. Kernisan will explain what all older adults and their families and caregivers should know bout CVD and what to do about it. In some cases, it can be a precursor of more serious cognitive problems.

Aging In Place

When should we give up driving? This is a tough topic for many families because of the independence that comes with driving. AAA offers us options to help us drive safely for longer along with options for us when it is time to give up the keys.

Wellness Trends in 2024. This is a business oriented article from McKinsey and Co. consultants, titled “What’s New In Consumer Wellness Trends”. As the article points out, this has become a $1.8 trillion business and there is excellent information here that can help us stay informed on options for us to stay as healthy as possible going forward.
