Wellness
We are emphasizing metabolic health again. The Harvard School of Public Health has published an extensive article on the importance and value of our diet consisting of large amounts of fruits and vegetables. They not only provide information about the best of each category for us, they breakdown how adding more fruits and vegetables to our diets help us in specific areas, such as blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, etc.

Wellness
Second Opinions. The Cleveland Clinic offers second opinions of medical diagnoses via Telehealth. It is available to those interested world wide. The original article explaining the program and results and savings it has provided is by Healthcare Brew, a daily newsletter filled with valuable information. The second link is to the Cleveland Clinic Second Opinion page where there is more information and you can sign up if you choose. As we pointed out recently, as technology plays a greater role in the health care system, we will feature options like this one more often.

Aging In Place
More technology. This is an interesting article from mhealthintelligence.com with statistics and information about how the senior generation is adapting to and has created demand for different forms of technology so we can remain in our homes as long as possible. As the population continues to age more, it appears there will be a combination of people 65+choosing to adopt more technology solutions into their daily lives and and those who have it delivered to them by their healthcare professionals, not always giving them a choice.

Caregivers
Healthline.com, under the title of Self Care for Caregivers has provided an excellent list of products and services a family caregiver can utilize to help them best take care of their loved one, and, of course, themselves. This list is the most inclusive I have found to date and we will continue to search for ways for our caregivers to best care for themselves as they provide this valuable service for our families.

And One More Thing
Tick Bites. It is that time of year as we start to get some warmer days and we are out and about more. I found this out first hand last week. I mentioned at the beginning of last weeks issue that I was under the weather. I had been bitten by a tick the day before and was not feeling well. I have been treated with antibiotics and feeling better, though more symptoms may appear over the next three to four weeks. My doctor said if I found the tick on my body within 48 hours of the bite I have a good chance of no further symptoms. I believe that is the case but not positive. Please check your self when you come in from working or walking outside. It only takes a moment and can save a lot of problems. I was jogging in a neighborhood when I think I got my bite so the idea that you have to be in the woods or something is not always accurate. Forgive the gross picture, but it looks exactly like mine did. The Mayo Clinic gives us information about Lyme Disease and more information about tick bites.
