Aging In Place Aging In Place Wellness And One More Thing
Caregivers
This article outlines an example of what an Iowa company is doing to support their employees who are caregivers for members of their families and friends. By one measure, there are 44 million people in the United States performing caregiver duties, most without compensation. This is having a big effect on workers incomes and work performance. Hopefully more companies like the one featured here will step up an support their employees.

Employer Based Health Insurance
The Annual Kaiser Family Foundation report on employer based health insurance was released this week. Premium costs rose over 7% for 2023 compared compared to an average of 1.5 % in 2022. This is another factor affecting caregivers and is a signal that caregivers, along with those they care for, should get and stay healthy as health care costs continue to rise. For many caregivers, they will be in the position of attempting to stay home in the not distant future. There is a lot of information here, more than many of us need, but much of it interesting. The Summary of Findings in the right column is a good recap of the report.

Medications Older Adults Should Avoid or Use With Caution.
Gerontologist, Dr. Leslie Kernisan, provides us with more valuable information regarding medications we are prescribed. If any of this information raises questions for you regarding a medication or medications you are taking, please discuss with your prescribing physician.

The Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health offers information about the Mind Diet, a follow up to our article last week regarding the Mediterranean diet. Many of us are discovering how much our diet effects our cognitive abilities as we age.
