Movement Wellness Aging Place Caregiving And One More Thing
Four Types of Exercise
We are going to continue to focus on movement, agility, stability, strength, etc. The National Institute on Aging shows us many forms of exercise that can help us achieve everything listed in the first sentence. Regular exercise, even on a limited level, can help us avoid many of the issues we have as we age, especially, but not only, falls. Developing a 15-20 minute plan at home 4-5 days per week can go a long way to prevent these issues. It is important to develop a mindset of prevention so we can stay in our homes. As always, consult your health care professionals if you have any concerns.

The Future of Wellness and Health at Home
This is somewhat of a business related article but it gives us a look at what some new and future trends are in the wellness industry. There is more focus all the time on health at home and the products and technology now available for us, especially wearable technology products.

Mild Cognitive Impairment
Some of these issues are difficult to confront or even look at but it is important to be as educated and aware as possible of what is going on with us as we age. I mentioned in a recent issue that I have some problems remembering peoples names. I met with my internist last week and she performed some basic tests and though she thought I was in a normal range for my age, we went ahead and scheduled some more extensive testing next month. It is important that we do this for our family members and friends or anyone who is a potential caregiver.

Caregivers Health
Again, we are featuring caregivers health. Familydoctor.org provides us with valuable information this time. We will continue to search for valuable, useful information for caregivers.

Aging In Place. 9 Ways to Make Your Home Safe
It is never too early to begin planning on how you might want to adapt your home so you can stay in it for as long as you like and do so safely. You may not need the chair in the picture but there are many ways to make your house more safe and here are 9 to start with.

And One More Thing
Chair yoga. I do yoga classes at a studio but it took me a while to adjust to them as I am not very flexible these days. Chair yoga is a great alternative, as a long term exercise program or, to see if you want to progress and add some yoga movements on your feet. Great not just for our bodies, but our minds also. It is very relaxing when you learn the poses and can focus. Very Well Fit teaches us 10 poses here to get started.
